I’m Kenzie, the founder of LD College Bridge and a high school student currently navigating the college admissions process. My experience with dyslexia, however, began much earlier. Before I was diagnosed in elementary school, I thought that I would never be successful academically and had resigned myself to falling behind my peers. Even when I first discovered that I had a learning disability, my family and I had so many questions about what this would mean as I progressed through school. I only began to feel more confident in my capabilities and better understand what it meant to be a dyslexic learner after discovering resources for K-12 students and families. However, just when I felt like I had gotten the hang of how to succeed in high school, it was time to focus on college applications. As I searched for similar resources to support me through this next transition, I found almost nothing. I knew I could not be the only one with these unanswered questions. How do accommodations work in college? How can I tell if a school will have a good support system for me? What is it like trying to juggle assignments and a social life with a learning disability?

I decided to find the answers to these questions myself. I began by reaching out to professionals at university disability service centers who worked with students like me every day, and those conversations became the starting point for LD College Bridge. My hope is that this initiative can give students what those early resources gave me: a better understanding of how they learn, so they can have the confidence to thrive after high school.
